Everyday we walk in the street we can see waste everywhere. This waste
has a terrible impact on our environnement and on animals. Indeed,
wastes often finish their life in the sea, which threatens the entire
marine ecosystem. We have let this happen for too long, to the point
that we have seen the emergence of a "7th continent".
During our research, we discovered a Facebook group called "pokedéchet
go" that organized meetings between members to go and clean up the
street. We find this idea very interesting and want push this concept
further : we are creating an application dedicated to waste collection
by citizens. In order to attract and maintain the motivation of all the
users, a gamification system will be implemented : the more waste you
collect, the more points you earn, the higher become your level.
Thus, during each of our wlaks, as soons as we see a piece of waste on the ground, we put it in the right bin, post on the app and collect points. Pokewaste is an interactive app where we aim to integrate the participation of citizens in a fun way towards keeping the city bit more clean.
We specialy want to target young urban adults who are 18-25, like video games and have an environemental awarness.
This is how our app works :
STEP 1 : Cite a piece of trash in the street ;
STEP 2 : Open the app "Pokewaste" ;
STEP 3 : Select the type of waste in question ;
STEP 4 : Depending on the waste, Pokewaste segregates and informs about
the type of waste;
STEP 5 : Pokewaste geotags the nearest appropriate garbage and suggests
an itinerary ;
STEP 6 : Take a picture of the waste deposit in the garbage ;
STEP 7 : Earn points and jump on to next level.
We would like to add a news feed, like a social network for users to share pictures and their feelings in order to challenge and motivate each other. "A picture is worth 1000 words", if an user finds a very filthy area, he can share it with others and organize a collective pickup event.
Municipalites will have an important role in success of our app. They will communicate location of garbage in city, plan collective collection events, and get feedback from their citizens through the social network.
Some levels could be rewarded with gifts (discounts, goodies, coupons...) thanks to possible partnership.
As mentioned above, Pokewaste is an application designed to be playful, so we want to create a gaming universe with avatars, rewards, stories, etc.
Finally, because it's destined to citizens, we want to incorprate some informative videos to raise awareness and transmit the right habits to adopt.
Unfortunately, waste management is still an issue that is far too common everywhere in the world and even more so within urban settings and cities. Recycling your trash is a great way to diminish your impact and therefore preserve the environment around us. However, it is often overlooked because it's too confusing, complicated or inconvenient.
This is the reason why we decided to tackle this issue by making recycling much easier and convenient for everyone. To do so, we want to create an application that could identify types of garbages through Artificial Intelligence and point you towards the nearest location where you could recycle the garbage you just identified. This would simplify user's life when it come to finding out what kind of garbage they have, track it, identify it, and find the easiest way to dispose of it. (maybe also tracker)
The app is designed for absolutely everyone. Waste management is a global issue that needs to be dealt with by everyone everywhere. Therefore we want our app to be as accessible and easy to use as possible. Having all kind of users is definitely one of our aim as the issue is global and comtemporary. We hope to reach the vast majority of people from all kind of backgrounds and demographics as it would them to have a positive impact on their surronding and therefore might help eradicate this common issue.
STEP 1 : Open the app "Spotrash" ;
STEP 2 : Scan the trash in your hand through the camera;
STEP 3 : The model will identify the type of trash you are carrying ;
STEP 4 : It will detect the nearest trash bin for that particular kind
of garbage through geomapping;
STEP 5 : The model will also help in determining the amount of waste
produced by a single person in a day ;
STEP 6 : This will help every individual to be conscious of the waste
being produced by them and also help them in reducing and recycling the
garbage ;
